• GRIEVANCE PROCESS

    **In the event that you wish to have your student's academic program reviewed related to Gifted and Talented services, as per New Jersey Administrative Code​ 6A:8-3.1 and the “Strengthening Gifted and Talented Education ” law ​(18A:35-35), please review the following guidelines.

    Grievance Process Steps:

    1. Notify, in writing, the Gifted and Talented Supervisor, Mr. Stephen Young, via email, syoung@eccrsd.us.
      1. A description of the grievance with specific reference to area concern should be included in the notification email.
    2. The Gifted and Talented Supervisor will contact the grievant to discuss the nature of the grievance and coordinate the process.
    3. The Gifted and Talented Supervisor will schedule a conference with a review committee to evaluate the grievance and supporting documentation/data.
      1. Documentation/Data will include, but is not limited to, previous test scores related to the Gifted and Talented identification process and a portfolio of past and present student work related to the nature of grievance.
      2. The review committee of the Gifted and Talented Supervisor, the Gifted and Talented Coordinator/Teacher, and the student’s regular education teacher within the content area identified within the grievance.
    4. The committee will make a determination based upon the information presented regarding eligibility for Gifted and Talented services.
      1. Should the committee determine that the student is eligible for Gifted and Talented services, planning, for the purpose of provided Gifted and Talented support within the student’s educational program, will begin.
      2. Should the committee determine that the student is not eligible for Gifted and Talented services, the grievant may appeal to the Director of Academic Programs and Student Perfomance.  
    5. The Director of Academic Programs and Student Perfomance will review the committee's decision and all supportive documentation to make a dertermination regarding eligibility for Gifted and Talented services.
      1. Should the decision of the review committee be reversed, planning, for the purpose of provided Gifted and Talented support within the student’s educational program, will begin.
      2. Should the decision of the review committee be upheld, the grievant may appeal to the Superintendent.  
    6. The Superintendent will review the committee's decision and all supportive documentation to make a dertermination regarding eligibility for Gifted and Talented services.
      1. Should the decision of the Director of Academic Programs and Student Performance be reversed, planning, for the purpose of provided Gifted and Talented support within the student’s educational program, will begin.
      2. Should the decision of the Director of Academic Programs and Student Performance be upheld, the grievant may appeal to the Board of Education.
