NJGPA
For the NJ Class of 2026, graduation requirements include completing a minimum of 120 credits, meeting state-mandated proficiency requirements by passing the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) or an alternative pathway, and completing the FAFSA or alternative financial aid application. The NJGPA is aligned to grade 10 English Language Arts and Algebra I/Geometry standards, and students who don't pass the first time can retake it in the summer or fall. Students must also complete specific coursework, like four years of English, three years of math and social studies, and various other subjects as defined by the local school district.
Assessment requirements
- NJGPA: Pass the English Language Arts and Mathematics sections of the NJGPA with a score of 725 on each component.
- Alternative pathways: If a student doesn't meet the NJGPA score, they can use an alternative pathway, such as a portfolio appeal or retaking the test.
- Alternative assessments: Some students may meet the requirement through alternative standardized tests. See the NJ Department of Education website for a list of equivalent scores on the SAT, PSAT, ACT, and Accuplacer exams.
