Testing

Overview

Testing is just one of the steps in the high school process as well as the college application process. Most colleges and universities require either the SAT or ACT be taken prior to admission as a baseline for student aptitude. Some colleges or universities may also require subject area testing. It is important when looking at colleges to note what testing they require as they are only certain times and dates at which you can take these exams. Registration information as well as times and dates of exams are below.

PSAT

The PSAT is just exactly what it sounds like, it's a practice SAT. Usually taken a student's Sophomore or junior year, the PSAT offers a great idea of what to expect during the SAT and the kind of score the student should be capable of attaining. Below is a quick presentation explaining how the PSAT is scored.

SAT

The SAT is the most accepted test for colleges across the board. Serving as one of the most proficient exams of aptitude, the SAT is offered several times a year. Most students take the SAT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year. Please check the book, in guidance, for SAT deadlines. You can also pickup a registration booklet in guidance or register online. When you register, you can have your test scores sent directly to the colleges of your choice. Please note that the SAT I and SAT II cannot be taken on the same day. You must register separately for any SAT II subject tests your college requires.
