PSATs - October 16th

On Wednesday, October 16th, Eastern Regional High School will be administering the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to all sophomores, juniors, seniors who have not fulfilled the graduation requirement of demonstrating proficiency in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics, and freshmen in an honors level math. The PSAT provides firsthand practice for the SAT. In addition, students will receive feedback on strengths and weaknesses in areas necessary for college study.

All students who are taking the test should report to school at the regular start time.  Specific testing locations will be distributed to students in their TIR on Monday, October 14th & Tuesday, October 15th.

Those students not taking the PSAT/NMSQT should arrive to school by 9:45 am, at which time they will proceed to the Performing Arts Center. The non-testing students who take a bus to school should report to their pick-up location two and one-half hours later than the regular time. For example, if your regular pick up time is 6:45 a.m., non-testing students will be picked up at 9:15 a.m. on October 16th

Please be advised that any student who does not report to school by 10:15 a.m. will not receive credit for attendance that day. The State of New Jersey maintains that a minimum of four hours of instruction is needed to constitute a school day.

The PSAT is overseen by the College Board and is not a State or district assessment. Therefore, standardized testing accommodations through an IEP or 504 plan can only be utilized if they have been pre-approved by the College Board.

Students participating in the PSAT will receive a PSAT practice booklet in their TIR.

All students should bring a calculator to the test. Calculators will not be provided by the school.

A modified bell schedule will be used and lunch times may be later than usual. Students are strongly encouraged to bring snacks that may be eaten on designated breaks during testing.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter. Should you have any questions please call your grade-level vice principal or guidance counselor.
