Eastern is a limited purpose, public regional system consisting of one high school: Eastern Regional High School, consisting of grades 9 through 12. The student population of approximately 2000 is multi-cultural and reflects the diversity of the three communities it serves: Berlin Borough, Gibbsboro and Voorhees Township. Approximately 65% of the student body is white, 15% Asian, 10% African-American, 7% Hispanic and 3% of two or more races.
The school district was established in 1965, with 35 professional staff and 495 students. It has grown over the years to include three additions to the original plant and a beautiful and modern athletic complex. The school district has a one-to-one program with every student and staff member having a school issued iPad. Eastern has a professional staff of more than 200. As a comprehensive secondary school, Eastern is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education.
The average academic class size is 24. Daily student attendance averages more than 93.5%, and the annual dropout rate is less than .4%. Eastern is proud to claim a wide array of educational services, which meet the needs of individual students. At Eastern, education is valued and viewed as a lifelong process of acquiring skills, knowledge and experience. A business-like, yet supportive atmosphere motivates students to learn, develop social consciousness and take pride in their individual and collective success. Members of the Board of Education, administration, and professional staff are ever mindful of their responsibilities. They are joined in their efforts by active residents of middle and upper-middle class communities who are committed to the pursuit of educational excellence.
